Neighbourhood Plan

Trunch Draft Neighbourhood Plan Pre-Submission Consultation Version

Why do we need a Neighbourhood Plan?

Under the North Norfolk Local Plan 2024-40, Trunch has an indicative housing growth figure of 37 dwellings under Policy SS1. This figure relates to new housing development on suitable sites located immediately adjacent to the settlement boundary and should not result in ‘significantly more’ than the 37-dwelling figure. This figure does not include new dwellings created within the settlement boundary through infill development, conversions or subdivisions. Our Neighbourhood Plan gives the village a voice in shaping where new development takes place, what it looks like and how it integrates with the character of Trunch. It is being developed to include policies that helps meet local housing needs, conserves and enhances the character and distinctiveness of Trunch, and encourages development which is environmentally sympathetic for the village.

Where are we to date?

Following an initial consultation held on 30th July 2026, we have published the emerging draft Neighbourhood Plan for pre-submission consultation and are accepting responses between 3 August and 18 September 2026. We have 3 policies we are recommending and one potential site for development. Please read the plan for more details. Draft Trunch Neighbourhood Plan Pre-Submission Consultation Version.

What’s next?

The feedback from this consultation will be used to develop a final Neighbourhood Plan for submission to North Norfolk District Council (NNDC) and then examination by an independent examiner. Once the final draft is submitted, the Council will publicise the draft Plan, invite comments in a six-week period of public consultation, appoint an examiner, and send the representations received and the draft Plan to the examiner.

If the draft Plan is approved by NNDC, the next stage is to put the plan (incorporating the examiners recommendations) to a public referendum, which will be organised by NNDC. If accepted via a simple majority vote, the draft neighbourhood Plan must be adopted for use by NNDC within an 8-week period following the referendum. Once approved, the Neighbourhood Plan will form part of the district-wide planning framework and become a material consideration (must be taken into account) in the consideration of future planning applications in the Trunch Neighbourhood Area.

Further details on the timeframe will be published here when available.

Again, please read the plan and understand what we are proposing, and if you have any questions please get in touch via the clerk, or come see us at a coffee morning at the village hall.
